Democrats encourage Bank of America customers to close accounts: The bank will slap customers with fees of as much as $60 a year if they make purchases with debit cards.

And Citibank is about to start charging $15-$20 in monthly fees.
Close your account and open one with a credit union. I bank with SF Fire Credit Union and love it. No fees, plus they refund your account anytime an ATM machine charges you a fee. There are a bunch of other other credit unions in the city too.
